The trend is in line with the goal of the Ministry of Education (MOE) to encourage teachers to use infocomm technologies to transform teaching. MOE plans to roll out a new online portal by 2016 which will help level up students across schools. Even special education schools are joining in, with the Asian Women's Welfare Association School, working with NTU to set up a 3-D interactive room, which has a 3m screen and motion sensors to allow students to interact with virtual pink dolphins.

SINGAPORE — Special needs students from Asian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) School will be put into a 3D environment simulating real-life situations to teach them social behaviour, self-awareness, communication and motor skills come the end of this month.

SIMON FOUNDATION AUTISM RESEARCH INITIATIVE: 22 March 2013

Swimming with dolphins can be dangerous for both the participant and the dolphin, particularly if the swimmer is a child with autism. A newly designed virtual world instead enables children with autism to become dolphin trainers, teaching them to use gestures to elicit flips and leaps. This innovative environment may help teach children to communicate, according to a study published in the March issue of IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering.
